Leo Appleton is Senior University Teacher in the iSchool at the University of Sheffield. In 2020 he completed a doctoral study at Edinburgh Napier University entitled The value and impact of public libraries within the Information Society: their contribution to citizenship development. Leo was recognised by CILIP’s Library and Information Research Group as the winner of the Practitioner Researcher Excellence Award in 2016. Leo was the keynote speaker at RIVAL event 3. |

Dr Simon Burnett is Professor of Information Science at Robert Gordon University’s School of Creative and Cultural Business. Simon began his career as a website designer, and went on to establish the Centre for Knowledge Management at RGU in 2000. His research has focussed on the use of narratives for sharing knowledge, organisational storytelling the use of social media in professional and socio-political contexts, and information access and usage issues amongst displaced communities. Laura Cagnazzo received her MSc in Information and Library Studies from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, in 2017. Her MSc final project focused on the investigation of current use and implementation of linked data across European national libraries. This work was published as a journal article in collaboration with Dr Diane Pennington. She is also one of the authors of the book Social tagging in a linked data environment. Laura has recently taken on the role of Repository and Research Data Librarian at the University of West Scotland. Dr Paul Gooding is a Senior Lecturer in Information Studies at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on evaluating the impact of digital library collections on institutions and users. He is particularly interested in the interaction between digital materials, user behaviour, and legal/institutional frameworks for collection development. He is PI on the Digital Library Futures project (2017-2019), an AHRC-funded project to analyse the impact of Non-Print Legal Deposit on UK academic libraries. He is also leading an AHRC UK/US collaborative network (2019-2020) to develop and evaluate a global dataset of digitised texts. Paul holds an MA in Library and Information Studies (2007), and a PhD in Digital Humanities (2014) from University College London, and formerly worked as a librarian with BBC Sport. Dr Hazel Hall is Professor of Social Informatics within the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. Her main research interests include information behaviour and use, online communities and collaboration, library and information science research, and research impact. Dr Konstantina (‘Dina’) Martzoukou is Teaching Excellence fellow and Course Leader for the MSc Information & Library Studies programme at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen Scotland. Her research work encompasses a number of interrelated areas, including information seeking behaviour, and information and digital literacy with an emphasis on the everyday life context. Her recent research work for example, has included an exploration of the information literacy experiences and socio-cultural adaptation of Syrian new Scots, the Syrian refugees in Scotland. Dina is a member of the Editorial Advisory Committee of Library Management Journal and in 2017 she was editor of a special issue on ‘The future role of librarians’. Dina is also a member of the Conference Programme Committee of the European Conference on Information Literacy and the Higher Education Advances conference. Since 2018 Dina has co-judged the Librarians Information Literacy Annual Conference (LILAC) Information Literacy Award. Sean McNamara is the Head of CILIP Scotland – the Scottish arm of the professional body for library and information workers in the UK. Sean has been with the organisation for 6 years and previously worked as the Policy and Digital Officer. Before that he was the Learning Services Librarian in the public library service in Inverclyde. Sean presented a Research into Practice case study with Hazel Hall at RIVAL event 2. |

Martina McChrystal is Director of Library Services at the University of Glasgow. She was appointed by the Deputy First Minister in 2018 as Chair of a national Advisory Group to deliver a new strategy for Scottish School Libraries. Vibrant Libraries, Thriving Schools was published in September 2018. Martina was Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland (CILIPs) in 2019. Dr Sarah Morton is internationally recognised for her work in developing innovative approaches to ensure that decision-makers have access to the best evidence for taking organisations, policies and practices forward. She has done this through: creating channels for getting research into the real world (at the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships); broadening understanding of the interaction between research, policy and practice (through work with UNICEF, What Works Scotland and other research); and working alongside organisations to use evidence for improving services for the families and communities they serve (with Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Starcatchers, The Scottish Book Trust, Shelter Scotland and others). Sarah has pioneered a participatory approach to using contribution analysis to understand and achieve outcomes. Sarah presented the keynote speech at RIVAL event 1. |

Dr Diane Pennington is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Information Science and the Course Director for the MSc/PgDip in Information and Library Studies at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. She leads the Information Engagement Research Area of the Strathclyde iSchool Research Group. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Library and Information Research, which is published by the Library and Information Research Group of CILIP. David Stewart was President of CILIP 2019. Working for Health Education England, David is Regional Director of Health Library and Knowledge Services North, responsible for the strategic development, co-ordination and quality monitoring of all NHS library and knowledge services across the north of England. He has been in this post since June 1999. His previous posts include Director of Information Services at the Royal Society of Medicine and working jointly for Oxford University and the former Oxford Regional Health Authority as Deputy Director of Health Libraries across the Oxford region. With a first degree in Medieval and Modern History from Birmingham University, David qualified as a librarian in 1981 at Birmingham Polytechnic. He chartered in 1984, and became a CILIP Fellow in 2012. David was the keynote speaker at RIVAL event 2 on 11th November 2019. |

Dr Frankie Wilson is the Head of Assessment at the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford. She provides strategic leadership for assessment throughout the Libraries, including training staff in assessment techniques, and designing and running assessment activities. She has extensive experience in applying a wide range of assessment methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative) to assess the impact of library provision, effectively communicating the results, and achieving changes in service provision to improve customer satisfaction, and productivity. Frankie holds a doctorate in the field of performance measurement, quality, and culture change in academic libraries, and continues to be an active researcher as well as a practitioner. She is Chair of the Board of the International Conference on Performance Measurement in Libraries, and serves on the Library Assessment Conference Board.
